Introduction:
Darry Jun and I have been friends since our college days. He was always the talkative one, with a laugh that filled the room, while I was one of the quieter guys. Our shared love for laughter and endless nights playing DotA forged a bond that not even time or distance could erode. After college, life took us on different paths, and we lost touch. But true friendship has a way of surviving; when we reunited years later, it was as if no time had passed at all.
The Morning of the Wedding:
On the morning of November 9, 2023, I woke up at 6:30 AM to a text from Darry, “Where are you now?”. In a flurry, I replied, “On the way!” and rushed to prepare, fearing I was late for the entourage pictorial. To my surprise, I was the first to arrive β Darry hadn’t even showered yet! It was a comical start to a day that promised to be unforgettable.
The Pictorial:
Our pictorial was anything but conventional. Dressed in boxer shorts, bathrobes, and clutching Barbie dolls, we struck poses that were hilariously out of character, especially for the more traditionally masculine groomsmen. But it was all in good fun and for the groom. Later, dressed in our elegant ‘barongs’, the traditional Filipino attire, we posed under the clear, sunny sky. Despite the humidity, laughter and camaraderie made for some truly memorable photographs.
The Ceremony at Sta Clara Chapel:
In a twist that was both amusing and slightly frustrating, I found myself chauffeuring Darry to the chapel. The drive, though short, was filled with his palpable excitement. I reminded him to savor every moment, even the tears if they came. Barangay Sang Birhen Parish Church, with its intimate and serene ambiance, was a perfect setting. Watching Darry and Kesha exchange vows was a moment of profound joy, seemingly blessed by the Holy Spirit itself.
Your Speech:
During my speech, I recounted a pivotal moment in Darry and Keshaβs relationship. When they faced challenges, Darry came to me for advice. I urged him to respect, be patient, and stay consistent in his efforts to nurture their relationship. I likened their journey to a cup of bitter coffee, which can be sweetened with just a bit of sugar, symbolizing the small, consistent acts of love and understanding that can transform a relationship.
Conclusion:
As the night drew to a close and I asked for Darryβs permission to leave, he walked me to my car. I told him it was the best wedding I’d ever attended. We promised to catch up over coffee soon, and I reassured him that I’d always be there for them.
Closing Remarks:
A wedding, much like the miracle of Jesus turning water into wine, signifies a transformation. It’s not just a union of two hearts but the beginning of a richer, more purposeful journey together. As I drove home, I reflected on the day β a celebration of love, friendship, and the miraculous moments that define our lives.
